What is the difference between an evaporative air cooler and a swamp cooler?
There’s no difference! These terms are both commonly used to describe the same thing, and we use them interchangeably on to keep from sounding overly repetitive.

Who should buy the Cool Boss?
Given its size and ability to chill up to 2,000 sq. ft. with its powerful fan, Cool Boss is primarily made for industrial applications. However, as long as it has access to a fresh outdoor air source and fits in your shop, large office or commercial workspace, there’s nothing to stop you from placing it just about anywhere.

Does it matter where I live?
Yes! In fact, much of the Eastern United States will have trouble cooling their shops using Cool Boss as an indoor evaporative air cooler. That being said, Cool Boss is well-suited for all climates as an outdoor evaporative air cooler. Why? The reason for this is that outdoor cooling is mostly about generating a cool breeze, which Cool Boss does exceptionally well. On the other hand, indoor cooling is about controlling the ambient temperature in a more confined space.

Swamp coolers like Cool Boss add moisture to the air using the natural process of evaporation, when hot outdoor air meets water dripping through an evaporative media pad. In humid climates, there may be some evaporative cooling effect, but it’s less pronounced than in dry climates. For this reason, the Western and Southwestern United States offer perfect climates for outdoor evaporative air coolers like Cool Boss.

Is Cool Boss an air conditioner?
No. Cool Boss is an evaporative air cooler, also referred to as a swamp cooler. Air conditioners use coolants to chill the air, while Cool Boss only uses naturally evaporated and chilled water vapor.

How does Cool Boss work?
Like all portable swamp coolers, Cool Boss works by pulling in hot, dry air from the outside and pushing it out. To allow the 30” diameter fan blade to create a cool breeze, an evaporative media pad traps hot air and water filtering down via the water drip system, which pumps water from the reservoir to the top of the unit. When the air meets the water, the cooling process of evaporation occurs, and Cool Boss is able to significantly reduce ambient temperatures in a large area (e.g., workspaces, outdoor recreational parks).

How much does Cool Boss chill the air?
Our swamp cooler can lower the air temperature up to 26°F. The exact temperature depends on the humidity outside, how much space is being cooled, the ambient temperature of the indoor area, etc.

Are portable air coolers safe to use?
Absolutely! There are no chemicals or coolants used, only water that gets turned into vapor through the natural cooling process of evaporation.

Does it cost a lot of money to use Cool Boss?
Evaporative air coolers are popular for many reasons, but one of the best reasons to get one is how inexpensive they are to operate. A portable swamp cooler can be used all day long for only a dollar. That’s at least 8 hours of work for just a buck; this value can’t be beat by any air conditioner.

How much space does the Cool Boss fan cover?
We offer three portable evaporative air coolers, covering up to 2,500 sq. ft.

Can I use Cool Boss at home or a small office?
Yes, but it’s not recommended. They’re portable, but with a 30” fan blade, they’re not exactly compact.

Will the Cool Boss get things wet when in use?
No. Portable evaporative air coolers push out air chilled by evaporating water droplets. The air that moves through the fan blades is more humid but dry. No moisture will cling to objects, people, etc.

Where should I position my indoor swamp cooler for the best effect?
The best way to use Cool Boss is to position it near a source of hot, dry air. This outdoor air source is crucial because an evaporative air cooler needs to add moisture to the air in order to reduce ambient temperatures of any given space. Unlike air conditioners, which recycle the same air source and remove humidity, Cool Boss will not work as well if it recycles the same indoor air supply.

Is Cool Boss an indoor swamp cooler or an outdoor swamp cooler?
Both! Portable evaporative air coolers can be rolled virtually anywhere with ease, and Cool Boss is built rugged enough to stand up to heavy use and abuse no matter where you put it.

Is one unit enough for my shop?
It depends! If your space is big enough to justify more than one unit, or you want to double your cooling power, then by all means add more swamp coolers to your space. Large work areas may need more than one unit to cover several thousand square feet of space; it’s all about getting your ambient working temperature down to a comfortable level for an extremely low cost. Multiple portable swamp cooler units will not cost much more to operate, which is a huge, worry-free incentive to buy more.

Ordering & Shipping

Does Cool Boss come with free shipping?
Most of the time, yes! The Cool Boss portable evaporative air cooler comes with free shipping to direct shipping points in the contiguous United States. Additional fees may be applied to residential and/or rural destinations. Special handling requests may also subject your portable swamp cooler delivery to additional fees. Please contact our international customer service department to receive an estimate on shipping costs outside the U.S.

Accessory and service parts orders do not usually qualify for free shipping and will be subject to a per piece freight charge based on package weight and the shipping destination.

The shipping carrier will be assigned based on delivery region and/or best service provided, as determined by our shipping department. Carrier requests are possible, but BendPak Inc. (as parent company of Cool Boss) will not in any way be responsible for additional freight charges incurred as a result of this change; any and all additional carrier costs will be transferred to the buyer when the order is placed.

How long does it take to receive my order?
Once ordered, your portable air cooler will take about 7 – 10 days for delivery; high-quantity orders and/or non-stock shipments may delay delivery times.

How can I check the status of my order?
Please feel free to check the status of your order any time by logging into your Cool Boss account or calling customer service at 1-888-262-3880. We can be reached by email at hello@CoolBoss.com.

Will sales tax be applied to my order?
No sales tax will be added you portable swamp cooler orders, including parts and accessories, except for shipments inside the state of California. California sales tax is not exempted by ordering through out-of-state dealers or other such means to avoid paying the tax. Cool Boss is not responsible for sales tax reporting laws with regards to Internet or catalog orders. Tax-exempt customers should send us a signed copy of their tax exemption certificates to avoid being charged sales tax.

What is the return policy?
For all Cool Boss shipments, our standard return policy and associated restocking fees apply. The consignee must retain all original packaging and contact customer service within 10 days from the invoice date prior to returning product to manufacturer. Portable swamp coolers fall under our return policy, but custom order products may not be returned for credit or refund.

Customers must inspect their evaporative air cooler for damage. Open the packaging and thoroughly check contents for shortages and damage at the time of delivery. Customers may refuse shipments that have been obviously damaged or shorted. If damage is discovered after driver leaves, hold on to the damaged packaging/product and contact customer service at (855) 2BE-COOL or send an email to hello@CoolBoss.com.

How do you ensure it ships on time?
We guarantee most of the items listed on www.CoolBoss.com are in stock and ready for immediate shipment. We often ship items within 24 hours of receiving your order.

Is my truck freight driver responsible for unloading the merchandise?
No. Truck freight drivers do not unload shipments; it is the consignee’s job to have all necessary equipment in order to unload and sign for the delivery. Neither Cool Boss nor the carrier will be held responsible for additional charges incurred from the renting of additional equipment necessary to unload the shipment. Service fees may apply to residential deliveries of heavy-duty equipment, as well as any lift gate services. Shipping rates and service fees are subject to change without notice.

Should I schedule a Delivery Appointment?
Delivery appointments are only necessary if you want your carrier to contact you at least 24 hours in advance of your swamp cooler delivery. A small appointment fee will be applied and covered by the buyer in exchange for this service.

What is the best way to inspect my swamp cooler once it is delivered?
Look at all parts/components for damage, and verify the number of items you received matches what is stated on your delivery receipt. Even if your driver expresses annoyance, it is your right to inspect your delivery. If you sign your freight bill free of claims, it can be hard to claim damages at a later date.

What should I do if my merchandise is damaged upon delivery?
There are two courses of action. One, record the damage on the freight bill and accept the package. Two, refuse to accept the delivery. Most of the time, the damage is cosmetic, meaning light scratches or dings. If the damage is light and cosmetic, it’s usually best to sign the package as damaged and have the carrier reimburse you for repairs and replacements as necessary.

You can choose to return your Cool Boss swamp cooler whole, but replacement will likely take longer due to stocking issues and transit times. If you accept the damaged package, you must call the carrier as soon as possible to schedule an inspection and file your claim. Take pictures from different angles and save all packaging materials. Do not refuse the package because of minor cosmetic scratches, or you will be charged for round-trip freight charges if the damage claim is denied.
